[공홈정보] 3.0 FAQ (22/12/10)
|
Due to overwhelming curiosity about v3.0 (and because I'm sick of answering the same question over and over), I've created a short FAQ about v3.0 and all things related to it.
If you have a question about v3.0 that is not on this list that you'd like answered, please feel free to post your question below and I will do my best to dig up an answer for you from the appropriate source. A word of warning: non-question posts WILL be pruned at my discretion, this thread is for questions only.
When is v3.0 set to release?
There is no exact date set for the release of v3.0, the last I heard it should be updated before Christmas, but that is still an estimation from the developers involved.
Is there anything I can do to help?
If you have post-secondary education in web development, 3ds, Flash, or any other school of design/art and you feel you have something to contribute to the website or the game, feel free to PM sidd or ecko with your interest.
Why isn't v3.0 out yet? Ecko said 2-4 weeks!
When ecko gave his first estimation about v3.0's release date, it was a very rough approximation. In any development platform, bugs and other problems will arise and dealing with these issues takes time. There are also issues to contend with the map editor itself, which you can rest assured knowing that ecko has the ears of some very important people in Blizzard.
The size of the development team for a custom map in SC2 can become an efficiency problem, as all updates must run through one member on the team regardless, so the fact that there are currently only 2 people working on the map isn't a big factor. Even pre-3.0 when ecko was working on the map alone, changes came much more frequently than other games of this type. Website development is another matter, but having seen the new site I'm very happy with the amount and quality of work sidd has put into its development by himself.
Is it true that ecko was hired by Blizzard and is forgetting about SotIS? Is that why v3.0 is taking so long?
Yes, ecko may be working for Blizzard in the near future, he was offered a position as a level designer and would more than likely be working on BotA. However, he has no plans to abandon SotIS. As for the second part of the question, see my second signature quote
Will we be seeing any pre-release patch notes or receive updates from ecko on its progress?
There are no plans for pre-release patch notes. The new patch will feature the very first global stat tracking system for a Starcraft 2 custom map, map balancing, new heroes, and more. Since the patch should hopefully be launched in a week or so, there is no need to make a commitment to a weekly/biweekly update for the community.
Will there be a simultaneous EU launch of v3.0?
This question is asked of every changelog, and the answer bears repeating (AGAIN): EU is normally not patched immediately because with every changelog comes new bugs in association with the new features. The NA region is an impromptu beta test to hammer out these issues before the final version is released to EU and SEA. Ecko does not feel like releasing a new version in every region and then updating those versions constantly to reflect new updates. However, due to the rather large changes associated with v3.0, this may change. Check back on this answer later for a better response.
Will there be a Mac-compatible SotIS Client?
At launch, no, there will not be a SotIS Client for Macs. However, there are plans for this to be added after the release of v3.0.
What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
African or European?
What is the primary focus of v3.0?
The biggest implementation that the developers are focusing on for v3.0 is the global stat-tracking system that will automatically update your leaderboard stats every time you play a game. Due to the relative complexity of this undertaking as well as certain limitations of the SC2 map editing system, this has been a significant time investment for ecko, brax, and sidd. As a result of this system, the first season of IHL will be a much more efficient undertaking from an administrative standpoint. On top of these features, there will also be the usual changelog suspects making appearances (but not as hellish as 2.0 turned out to be). Suffice it to say that the game will be noticeably different post-patch.
Why hasn't anyone considered outsourcing development?
Money spent on a free custom map for SC2? Not a good investment.
Will donating help v3.0 be released faster?
No, donating helps us keep the website running. Without the website, ecko cannot read your thoughts and opinions on certain aspects of the game. Without that feedback, ecko won't know what to patch. So, while donating may not directly impact the speed of v3.0's release, it indirectly adds more content to that patch and future patches by facilitating communication between the developers and the community.
What IS the SotIS Client? Why would I use it if I never play in inhouses?
The SotIS Client is a program developed by community member brax in association with ecko that you can run in the background while you are playing SotIS, either in an inhouse or in a public game. This client will read your updated (and newly encrypted) bank file at the end of the match and update your global leaderboard stats on the website in accordance with your performance. SotIS will have the very first global leaderboard system for a custom map in SC2. Inhouse matches will be weighed in differently on the global boards, so players who participate in the community in inhouse matches will see their leaderboard position advance much faster than someone who pubstomps all day.
Will there be a statistic for the amount of games a player leaves?
Yes, there will be. Players who pad their stats by leaving games that they think they won't win, or players with bad connections, will both be accurately reflected through leaderboard stats.
