Xel'Naga - 젤나가

젤 나가( 오리지널 스타크래프트 메뉴얼에 따르면 "아득히 먼곳에서 온 방랑자"의 이름)는

 

스타크래프트 시리즈에서 전설로써만 등장하는 고대종족으로써 ; 그들의 유일한 등장은 유물로써만 나타났다.

 

젤나가는 프로토스,저그 종족과 알려지지않은 수의 종족의 발전을 조작 함으로써 ,프로토스와 저그 양측 배경이야기에서 중요한 역할을 하고있다. 스타크래프트2 에서 플레이어가 젤나가를 컨트롤 할수 있을것으로 추정되었으나, 이는 블리자드에 의해서 단호히 부정되었고, '오히려 영웅담'으로 게임 줄거리에 공헌할것이라고 밝혀졌다.

 

특성

스타크래프트 메뉴얼에서는 젤나가가 완벽한 생명형태를 창조하기로한 종족으로 그려진다.

또한 다른 은하계에서 왔다고 명백히 진술되었으며,그들의 시대에" 수천의 다양한 종족의 씨를 뿌리며 경작했다 "

젤나가는 순결한 형태를 지닌것으로 믿어  프로토스의 진화를 이끌었다.

 

그러나,그들 스스로 그들의 겉보기엔 성공한 실험물 앞에 등장한 이후에, 그들의 존재가 프로토스에게 공포와 종족주의적 마음을 주었다.

 

그들의 실험이 실패 임을 믿으며 아이어를 떠날떄 , 프로토스에 의해 멀리 되어지며, 결국에는 공격을 받았다.

 

젤나가는 그리고 다른종의 신경을 장악할수 있는 작은 기생유충 저그를 발견했다.

젤나가는 이를 본질의 순수로 봤으며,저그의 발전역시 이끌었다.

그러나 저그는 스스로의 보호에만 신경쓰는 동물이었다.저그를 종으로 이끌기 위해

 젤나가는 저그의 중심의식인 초월체를 창조했다.그들은 그들의 존재를 초월체로부터 숨겼으나,그들의 존재를 초월체가 알아차린 이후엔 , 초월체가 젤나가를 공격하여 감염,파괴하였다.

 

외모

젤나가가 게임이나 소설에서 스스로 모습을 드러내진 않았지만. 시리즈 내내 다양한 유적들이 그들의 유산으로 남겨졌다. 종족전쟁에서의 한 유적은 샤쿠러스위의 거대한 사원으로써 행성전체의 다른행성들을 쓸어버릴 힘을 담고 있었다.종족전쟁 진행동안 프로토스는 사원을 이용하여 샤쿠러스의 모든 저그를 쓸어 버렸다.(종족전쟁 프로토스 마지막 미션) 추가로, 다른 건축물들이 시리즈내에 등장했다 젤나가의 그림자에서는 주요 3종족이 베카 로 행성에 있는 거대한  젤나가 인공건축물을 차지하기 위해 싸웠다. 그러나 우연히 작동 시킨후(듀크장군의핵)

우주로 사라지기 전,근처에 있는 젤나가의 힘이 미친 프로토스와 저그를 영양분으로 흡수한 에너지 생명체를 배출해내었다. 이후에 소설 첫탄생 에 테란자치령 변두리내에서 비슷한 인공물들을 드러내었다. 자치령의 후계자 발레리안이 따라서 이 유물들을 조사하기위해 제이크램시를 필두로 하는 고고학자팀을 파견하였다.

Xel'Naga

The Xel'Naga (whose name, according to the original Starcraft manual means "Wanderers' from Afar") are an ancient race that has to date only been featured in the lore of the StarCraft series; their only appearances have been in the form of relics. The Xel'Naga play important roles in the backstories to both the Protoss and Zerg, being responsible for manipulating the evolution of the two races, along with an unknown number of other species. It was speculated that a player could control the Xel'Naga in StarCraft II and although this has been firmly denied by Blizzard Entertainment,^[44] they have confirmed the Xel'Naga will contribute to the game's storyline "in a rather epic tale".^[45]

In the manual to StarCraft, the Xel'Naga are described as a race determined to create the perfect lifeform. The Xel'Naga are also stated to have come from another galaxy and to have "seeded and cultivated thousands of various species" in their time.^[46] The Xel'Naga guided the evolution of the Protoss, a species the Xel'Naga believed possessed purity of form. However, after revealing themselves to their seemingly successful experiment, their presence caused the Protoss to devolve into a fearful and tribalistic mindset. Believing their experiment a failure, the Xel'Naga were shunned and eventually attacked by the Protoss while departing Aiur.^[47] The Xel'Naga then discovered the Zerg, small parasitic larvae that could control the nervous systems of other species. The Xel'Naga saw this as purity of essence, and guided the evolution of the Zerg as well. However, the Zerg were animals, concerned only with self-preservation. To help further the Zerg as a species, the Xel'Naga created the Overmind, a central consciousness to organize the Zerg. They hid their existence from the Overmind, however. On becoming aware of their existence (after being filled with an overriding directive it could not fight off), the Overmind attacked the Xel'Naga, infesting and destroying the greater whole of the race.^[48]

Although the Xel'Naga do not themselves appear during the novels and the video games, various relics left behind from their legacy are scattered throughout the series. One such relic appears in Brood War, a large temple on the planet Shakuras containing the power to wipe the planet clear of other species.^[49] During the course of Brood War, the Protoss activate the temple and use it to destroy all of the Zerg on Shakuras.^[50] In addition, other structures have been shown in the series. In the novel Shadow of the Xel'Naga, the three main species fight for control of a large Xel'Naga artifact on the planet Bhekar Ro, but accidentally activate it. The artifact releases a creature incubating in the structure, which proceeds to convert the nearby Xel'Naga–empowered Protoss and Zerg forces into energy for nourishment, before disappearing into space.^[51] After this, the novel Firstborn reveals that numerous other similar artifacts are discovered by the Terran Dominion within its borders. The Dominion heir Valerian Mengsk consequently sends an archaeological team under Jake Ramsey to investigate these relics.^[52]
